On September 28, 2025, the 30th National Seafarers Day will celebrate Filipino seafarers with a Mega Job Fair and Medical Mission at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate, Manila. This event will offer more than 2,300 job opportunities and free medical and wellness services, recognizing the vital role of seafarers in the global maritime industry.
Organized by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), the event will feature approximately 21 licensed manning agencies under the theme “Disenteng Trabaho para sa Marinong Filipino 2025” (Decent Work for Filipino Seafarers 2025). DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac emphasized the significance of this initiative as a way to open new opportunities for Filipino sailors and acknowledge their contributions to the maritime sector.
Job seekers will find a diverse range of positions available, including roles for ship officers, engineers, electricians, cooks, waiters, and cruise staff, catering to various skill sets within the maritime field. To facilitate the application process, prospective applicants are encouraged to pre-register online at jobfairportal.dmw.gov.ph and obtain a QR code or Job Fair Pass for entry.
Participants must bring essential documents such as passports, résumés, diplomas, Seaman’s Books, and certifications from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to ensure they are prepared for on-the-spot interviews and skills tests.
The Philippines is internationally recognized as the “seafaring capital of the world,” providing approximately 20 to 25 percent of the global workforce of 1.9 million seafarers. Filipino maritime professionals are esteemed for their extensive training, discipline, and proficiency in English, making them highly sought after by international shipping companies.
National Seafarers Day, established in 1996 by former President Fidel Ramos through Proclamation 828, is celebrated on the last Sunday of September each year to honor the dedicated service of Filipino seafarers who support global shipping and contribute significantly to the Philippine economy and many families. This year’s events aim to enhance employment prospects and provide essential health services, further reinforcing the national commitment to the welfare of seafarers and recognizing their contributions on an international scale.
