Advisory for Indian Seafarers at Iranian Ports Amid Conflict

The Directorate General of Shipping in India has issued an advisory in response to an alert from the Embassy of India in Tehran, dated June 13, 2025. This advisory comes amid heightened tensions stemming from the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.

All Indian seafarers and vessels registered under the Indian flag that are either operating in Iranian ports or transiting through the Strait of Hormuz are urged to exercise caution. The advisory emphasizes the need for seafarers to remain vigilant, limit unnecessary movement, and adhere to local safety protocols to ensure their safety in the region.

In addition, shipping companies, along with RPSL agencies and other maritime stakeholders including the Indian National Shipowners’ Association (INSA), the Federation of Indian Seafarers’ Unions (FOSMA), and the Maritime Association of Shipowners of India (MASSA), are encouraged to stay proactive in monitoring crew safety.
