British Tourist Missing Following Koh Tao Boat Fire

A recent incident involving a fire on a boat in the Gulf of Thailand has led to urgent search efforts for a missing British tourist. The Surat Thani Provincial Marine Office reported that, following the fire, they coordinated with private boats and local volunteers to help evacuate tourists and crew members safely to another vessel. Unfortunately, one tourist, identified as Alexandra Clarke, has been reported missing.

Authorities have mobilized a search team to find Clarke, and Thai navy divers spent the day searching both the wreckage of the boat and the surrounding waters. Despite their efforts, no traces of Clarke have been found. Reports indicate that she may have been inside the boat’s toilet when the fire erupted.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway. Preliminary findings from local police suggest that the blaze began when an engine used for compressing air into a fuel tank malfunctioned during a trip to a well-known diving location. Colonel Sarayuth Buriwachira from the Koh Tao Police stated that the tourists, along with diving instructors, had reached the dive site known as Southwest Pinnacle around 7:30 AM.

The incident highlights the dangers associated with boating activities, particularly in regions popular for recreational diving. Local authorities are committed to uncovering more details about the circumstances that led to the fire while continuing their search for Clarke. The situation remains tense as family and friends await news regarding her fate.
