Following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Morocco on September 8, 2023, the CMA CGM Foundation, as part of its commitment to help populations affected by humanitarian crises and natural disasters, mobilized to provide emergency aid to the Moroccan population.
The CMA CGM Foundation donated 84 containers, some of which were transported by road to the affected regions, where they are now being used. This operation was made possible thanks to the logistical expertise of the CMA CGM’s agency, CCIS Morocco as well as the CMA CGM Group’s employees in Morocco.
Converted and managed by local partner organizations, these containers provide homes for earthquake-affected families.
- Thanks to Caritas Marrakech, 14 containers were transformed into a school with 4 classrooms and 1 administrative building to accommodate the children of 1,200 families living in the village of Tigenziwine, in the province of Al Haouz.
- Thanks to Atlas Kinder, 20 containers have been transformed to benefit the village of Douar Assalam, which is emerging as a place of relief and hope after the earthquake. Atlas Kinder provides support to the population affected by the earthquake, with vocational training courses focusing on social entrepreneurship for women in the Al Haouz region. Douar Assalam is also providing housing for 140 families affected by the earthquake.
- In partnership with the Renault Group Morocco and the Renault Group Morocco Foundation, 50 containers were equipped and installed in the village of Douar Toulkine in the province of Al Haouz to provide housing, sanitation, and education for 44 Douar families.
