DB Schenker has inaugurated its third Schenker Logistics Centre (SLC) in Bhiwandi, expanding its footprint in the logistics sector with a facility that spans approximately 200,000 square feet. This center is among the largest in the region and aims to provide integrated logistics solutions to industries such as baby care, mother care, fire protection, camera and accessories, and bathroom fittings.
Strategically positioned just 3 kilometers from the Mumbai-Nasik Highway and 60 kilometers from both the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway (NH-8), the SLC is designed to enhance accessibility for businesses in the surrounding areas. The facility is equipped with modern material handling equipment, including reach trucks, stackers, and forklifts. It features significant warehouse height—30 feet on the sides and 38 feet at the center—along with amenities like turbo ventilators, louvers, and three-phase electricity connectivity.
Notably, the new logistics center is conveniently located only half a kilometer from a proposed dedicated freight corridor that will connect JNPT port to the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, traversing through several key states, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Haryana. This proximity is expected to enhance the efficiency of logistics in the region significantly.
Mr. Oliver Bohm, CEO of Schenker India Pvt. Ltd., remarked on the importance of the western industrial corridor, which is a hub for many manufacturing units. The area’s growing demand for effective logistics and warehousing solutions is what prompted the establishment of the new SLC. He emphasized that the strategic location of the Bhiwandi center positions it well to meet the logistics needs of customers in the region.
