The Directorate General of Shipping in Mumbai has recognized T S Rahaman for the successful launch of the fourth batch of the Women in Rating Programme. This initiative, initiated two years ago in collaboration with major shipping companies, aims to empower young women from rural India to embark on careers at sea.
The programme focuses on outreach, training, and collaboration with industry partners, significantly facilitating the entry of over 80 women into the maritime sector. In addition, it has provided scholarships amounting to ₹72 lakhs to deserving candidates, enabling them to pursue their dreams in a traditionally male-dominated field.
The Directorate General of Shipping expressed gratitude to T S Rahaman, the involved shipping companies, unions, and the families of these young women for their steadfast support in promoting gender inclusivity within the maritime industry.
