The Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) in Mumbai has explicitly refuted rumors regarding a ban on foreign Certificates of Competency (CoCs). The organization confirmed that valid certifications still allow genuine seafarers to work, urging stakeholders to ignore misleading information circulating on social media.
To enhance the credibility of the certification process, DG Shipping has introduced a 30-day validation window for submitting relevant documents through Registered Recruitment and Placement Service Licence (RPSL) agencies. This initiative aims to create a transparent and rule-based framework that not only protects the careers of Indian seafarers but also upholds the integrity of the industry and aligns with international maritime standards.
Additionally, DG Shipping has issued a warning against fraudulent practices in the certification process and has promised stringent action against violators. Stakeholders and seafarers are encouraged to rely on official communications and steer clear of unverified sources.
