Shahrin is DNV’s regional head of maritime advisory, and director of Maritime
Decarbonization and Autonomy Center of Excellence (Singapore/Asia-Pac). DNV is a global
classification society and advisor for the maritime industry.
In his current role, he has global responsibility for maritime advisory business development
in the shipping value chain and is concurrently responsible for the maritime consulting
business, R&D, and innovation within the areas of decarbonization, digitalization as well as
ESG/sustainability initiatives in the region.
Shahrin is also taking an advisor role for digital start-ups and scale-ups. He is also the
director of the Maritime Decarbonization and Autonomy Center of Excellence located in
Singapore. He has extensive experience in strategy development for maritime
decarbonization and is also working with several shipping players in their digital
transformation journey, incorporating strategy, roadmap development, and implementation
to achieve emission reductions, safer operations, and OPEX reduction.
Shahrin has more than 30 years of maritime industry experience and has been a frequent
guest speaker and panelist at industry conferences, focusing on the topic of maritime
cluster, digitalization, sustainability and talent management. He has been a project manager
and project sponsor for numerous maritime decarbonization advisory projects in South East
Asia, India, ANZ, and the Middle East involving feasibility studies and strategies on
alternative marine fuels.
In 2021, he was appointed to the Maritime Industry Advisory Council at the Singapore
Maritime Academy, in 2022 appointed as a member of the Technology Advisory Panel at the
Singapore Maritime Institute, the R&D unit of MPA Singapore, and in 2023 appointed as a
member of the Tripartite Advisory Panel for the Alliance for Maritime Future Talent
Maritime consisting of senior leadership within Maritime Singapore ecosystem.
Shahrin has a doctorate degree with research focus on industry cluster strategy and
innovation ecosystem, and a MSc in Maritime Studies from NTU Singapore. He has attended
executive programs on “Leading Digital Business Transformation” and “Future
Technologies” at UC Berkeley.
