A recent incident involving a Chinese seaman has highlighted the efficiency and dedication of Vietnamese marine rescue operations. The sailor, identified as 37-year-old Liang Fengshan, suffered a severe injury while working aboard the Xin Dan Yang Ship, which was en route from China to Singapore. The incident occurred approximately 30 nautical miles east of Nha Trang City, where the crew reported an emergency at around 7:30 PM on Saturday.
Upon receiving the distress signal, the Việt Nam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre promptly initiated a response. They maintained continuous communication with the ship’s crew to monitor Liang’s condition and provided guidance on administering initial medical aid in an attempt to stabilize him. Despite these efforts, Liang’s situation deteriorated significantly, characterized by heavy bleeding, breathing difficulties, a persistent high fever, and overall weakened health.
Given the urgency of the situation, the National Committee for Disaster Response, Search and Rescue, along with the Ministry of Transport and the Việt Nam Maritime Administration, sprang into action. They dispatched a rescue ship and a medical emergency team stationed in Nha Trang to facilitate Liang’s transfer to safety and ensure the necessary medical support was available.
Rescuers successfully reached Liang and transported him to the mainland, where he arrived at the Khánh Hòa Provincial General Hospital at 11:50 PM the same day. Medical staff there have reported that his condition is stable and he is now in recovery.
This incident underscores not only the importance of swift maritime rescue operations but also the collaborative efforts of various agencies in Vietnam to respond to emergencies at sea. The successful rescue of Liang Fengshan serves as a reminder of the critical role of marine safety protocols and the dedication of rescue teams in preserving lives in challenging situations.
