Chinese LNG terminals import fuels to reduce dependence on SOE

Chinese companies build their own LNG terminals and import the fuel directly.  They aim to meet higher demand and reduce their dependence on supplies from state-owned enterprises (SOE).

The LNG carrier Stena Blue Sky delivered the first cargo to the first privately-owned LNG terminal in China.

Above all, Chinese gas distributor, ENN invited the carrier to become the first vessel to unload at the new Xin’ao Terminal in Zhoushan, Ninbo region on 8th August 2018.

The Zhoushan terminal has a capacity of 3 million tonnes of LNG per year.

Erik Hånell, president & CEO Stena Bulk, says being ‘first in China’ is a very rare title. Certainly, each one of the operations was distinct as each piece of terminal equipment was being operationally used for the first time.

He added that it took resourcefulness, patience and a problem-solving attitude that resulted in a successful operation.

Also, the vessel underwent a Port State Control inspection while at the terminal.  Importantly, it received zero observations.

At the event were ENN owner Yusuo Wang,  carrier captain Marko Skoric, and Stena representative Helen Huang, among others.

Established in 1993, ENN is one of the leading privately owned gas operators in China. Its principal business includes the following. Sales and distribution of pipeline gas, investing in and managing gas pipeline infrastructures, vehicle/ship gas refuelling stations, LNG trading. Listed on HKEX since 2001.
