MISC, a prominent player in the maritime industry, has announced the appointment of Captain Rajalingam Subramaniam as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), beginning on October 1, 2022. He takes over from Yee Yang Chien, the current group president and CEO. Captain Rajalingam, 56, has a rich maritime background, starting his career at sea before transitioning ashore in 1996. Over the years, he has held various positions within MISC, including vice president of fleet management services in 2008. In 2016, he became the president and CEO of AET Tanker Holdings Sdn Bhd.
Before his new role, Captain Rajalingam served as the group chief operating officer since February 2022. He is also active in the global marine industry, holding pertinent positions such as a board member of Gard P&I and serving on the executive committee of the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners. Notably, he has been recognized as an honorary commander in the Royal Malaysian Navy since 2009 and received the National Seafarers Icon award in 2017 and the Tanker Shipping & Trade Industry Leader Recognition in 2018.
In a separate announcement, University Malaya Specialist Centre (UMSC) appointed Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. R. Palan as its new chairman, effective June 1, 2022. Dr. Palan’s career began as a lecturer in management studies, with a subsequent focus on becoming a management trainer. He has authored over 15 books and numerous articles, showcasing his expertise. In recognition of his contributions, he was conferred the prestigious Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM), which grants him the honorary title “Tan Sri,” awarded by the Agong of Malaysia in 2016.
Both appointments reflect significant leadership changes in their respective organizations, and they are expected to bring valuable expertise and vision to guide their teams forward. Congratulations are extended to both Captain Rajalingam and Dr. Palan on their new roles.
