Marco Neelsen is the CEO of Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), the premier transshipment port in Malaysia. He joined PTP on November 7, 2016. PTP is one of the world’s busiest container ports, and is ranked at number 15 amongst top 100 ports in the world.

With the integration of Pelepas Free Zone and port terminal, the seamless movement of cargoes is one of the added advantages to customers and business partners. The Pelepas Free Zone houses more than 40 companies, which employ 11,000 people and contributed RM2.8 billion investments to the country.

Prior to joining PTP, Marco was the CEO of Buss Port Logistics in Hamburg, Germany where he was responsible in leading a portfolio of 12 multipurpose and offshore terminals in Germany, Netherlands and Turkey.

His wide-ranging experience also covers various port operations and top-level management positions within APM Terminals, having spent more than 10 years in various ports in the Middle East like Salalah (Oman), Aqaba (Jordan), Saudi Arabia and Bahrain as well as a stint in Lagos (Nigeria).

Marco, a certified and trained navigation officer, holds a bachelor’s degree in Maritime Transport and a Master Mariner license from Germany. With more than 20 years’ experience in the maritime industry, predominantly in ports within Europe and Asia, and more than 12 years in business leadership roles, Marco is set to bring PTP forward.
