Markus Bangen studied law at the University of Bonn, specializing in transport and European law, and began his professional career at Duisburger Hafen AG (duisport) in 2000 after working as a lawyer. He has been a member of the Executive Board since 2008 and chairman since August 1, 2021.

On behalf of duisport, he is active in various national and international expert groups and as a shareholder representative in various German and international terminal holdings, including as vice chairman of the board at the Railport joint venture terminal in Turkey.

Markus’ other appointments include chairman, Terminal Advisory Group, Rail Freight Corridor (RFC) Rhine-Alpine; member, Terminal Advisory Group, RFC North Sea – Baltic; member, Advisory Board, German Logistics Association (BVL); member, Executive Committee, Association of German Transport Companies (VDV).
