On July 8, Liebherr marked a significant milestone in European industry with the delivery of its 2,000th mobile harbour crane, the LHM 600, to Marcegaglia in Ravenna. This crane will play a crucial role in handling steel coils, billets, and plates, all essential elements in Marcegaglia’s high-volume logistics operations, which process over four million tonnes of steel annually. The event saw senior executives from both companies, including Antonio Marcegaglia, President and CEO of Marcegaglia, and Patricia Rüf from Liebherr’s administrative board, come together to celebrate this achievement.
The LHM 600 stands out not only for its size but for its impressive specifications, featuring a reach of 61 meters and a lifting capacity of 154 tonnes. It is designed with a focus on performance, safety, and operator comfort. Its digital interface and ergonomic cabin enhance usability for operators, while integral safety features like standby-enabled fire protection ensure it can withstand the demands of port environments.
The collaboration between Liebherr and Marcegaglia began over two decades ago with the delivery of an LHM 400 crane in 2001. Since then, the relationship has expanded in sync with the growth of Marcegaglia’s operations. Antonio Marcegaglia expressed pride in receiving the milestone crane, highlighting it as more than just a technical asset—it symbolizes the companies’ enduring partnership built on reliability, innovation, and mutual respect.
This event also highlighted the essential role of Mac Port, Liebherr’s long-standing sales and service partner in Italy. Their expertise and responsive support have been vital in maintaining the performance and availability of Liebherr’s crane fleet across various sites.
The Ravenna facility is pivotal to Marcegaglia’s industrial strategy. As it witnesses significant investments aimed at increasing capacity, improving process quality, and enhancing environmental performance, the LHM 600 will be integral in supporting these goals. It will enable faster, safer, and more efficient handling of cargo, crucial for the company’s expanding logistics operations.
Andreas Ritschel, General Manager of Sales for Mobile Harbour Cranes at Liebherr Rostock, characterized the delivery of the 2,000th crane as a proud moment. He emphasized that this achievement not only reflects the strength of Liebherr’s legacy but also underscores the collaborative innovation that fuels the partnership with customers.
In summary, the delivery of the LHM 600 crane to Marcegaglia in Ravenna represents a significant milestone in the logistics and manufacturing sectors. It reinforces the commitment of both companies to innovation and operational excellence, promising enhanced efficiency in steel handling and setting the stage for future growth in Marcegaglia’s logistics capabilities.
