On August 16, 2024, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL), under the leadership of President & CEO Takeshi Hashimoto, announced a significant milestone for maritime training in the Philippines. The MOL Training Center (Philis.) Inc. in Cavite became the first maritime training institute in the country to receive accreditation from DNV, a major classification society based in Oslo. This accreditation signals the center’s compliance with the latest International Maritime Organization (IMO) models for four essential training courses designed for seafarers working on MOL-managed vessels.
The accredited courses include:
- Engine-Room Resource Management (IMO Model Course 7.17/2023 & 2.07/2017)
- Liquefied Gas Cargo Control Room Resource Management (IMO Model Course 1.36/2019)
- Oil Tanker Training (IMO Model Course 2.06/2002)
- Bridge Resource Management (IMO Model Course 1.22/2023)
By achieving this accreditation, MOL Training Center is recognized for meeting global standards required by the “Ship Inspection Report Program: SIRE 2.0,” set forth by the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF). This program provides a framework for conducting thorough ship inspections, ensuring safety and efficiency in maritime operations.
MOL has previously secured third-party certification for training courses at its facilities across India and Europe and aims to extend accreditation efforts to additional locations in the future.
