The Myanmar delegation participated in the Maritime Labour Rights Forum titled “Charting a Course for Seafarers and Industry Empowerment,” held in Penang, Malaysia, on May 27 and 28. The event focused on enhancing the rights and empowerment of seafarers and the maritime industry.
Key participants included the Myanmar Ambassador to Malaysia, U Aung Soe Win, and U Chan Myae, Director of the Seafarers Division from the Department of Marine Administration under the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The forum served as a platform for discussing significant issues related to maritime labor rights, promoting collaboration among industry stakeholders, and exploring strategies for the welfare of seafarers.
During the event, Ambassador U Aung Soe Win engaged with Captain Abdul Samad bin Shaik Osman, the Deputy Director-General of the Maritime Department of Malaysia, where they exchanged insights and discussed matters relevant to maritime cooperation. As a token of appreciation, Ambassador Soe Win presented a souvenir to Captain Osman, symbolizing the strengthening ties between Myanmar and Malaysia in the maritime sector.
The forum reflects Myanmar’s commitment to the global discourse on maritime labor rights and its efforts to empower seafarers by engaging in meaningful dialogues with international partners.
