The Nautical Institute (Singapore) will host its annual conference on July 17, 2025, at Furama City Centre under the theme “Maritime 4.0 – Embracing Digitalisation, Sustainability & Wellbeing.” This event aims to address the maritime industry’s ongoing digital transformation against the backdrop of climate action and crew welfare, fostering collaboration among maritime professionals, regulators, and innovators.
The conference will feature as the Guest of Honour Mr. Ang Wee Keong, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), highlighting Singapore’s commitment to advancing maritime strategies. Keynote addresses will be delivered by two notable figures in the maritime sector: Mr. John Martin, CEO of Gard Singapore, and Mr. Mark Cameron, Managing Director and COO of Ardmore Shipping. With extensive experience in marine insurance and ship management, respectively, both speakers will share insights relevant to the conference themes.
The 2025 programme is anchored around three core pillars:
-
Digitalisation: This segment will dive into aspects such as the evolution of navigation systems, the role of AI in bridge operations, and the development of modern pilotage practices, including discussions on ECDIS S-100.
-
Sustainability: Experts will explore the potential and challenges of alternative fuels, including ammonia, hydrogen, and nuclear options, alongside crew readiness and ensuring operational safety in these transitions.
-
Seafarer Wellbeing: This part will focus on critical issues like mental health, diversity, mentorship, and the development of the next generation of maritime professionals.
The conference aims to facilitate cross-sector dialogue, bringing together speakers from government, academia, shipowners, insurers, classification societies, and technology providers. It intends to advance conversations on implementing Maritime 4.0 practices in a safe, sustainable, and inclusive manner.
Participants can expect a full-day of discussions featuring over 20 expert speakers, interactive panel debates, and numerous networking opportunities. The event also provides on-site media access for coverage and interviews.
The Nautical Institute is a non-governmental organization (NGO) recognized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), with its Singapore branch established in 2015. It serves as a platform for maritime professionals and seafarers to engage in high-level discussions, advocate for operational excellence, and enhance safety culture within the industry.
