New LNG Carrier Manning Company in Indonesia Launches Recruitment

On April 25, 2024, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) officially launched a joint-venture company, PT McMOL Crewing International (McMOL), dedicated to manning services for its fleet of LNG carriers. The unveiling ceremony took place in Jakarta, Indonesia, and was attended by approximately 80 guests, including MOL’s Senior Managing Executive Officer Mitsuhisa Tanimoto and representatives from PT MCS Internasional (MCSI), the other partner in the venture.

Established in August 2023, McMOL aims to provide highly skilled seafarers to support the growing demand for LNG transportation, which is seen as a cleaner energy resource compared to heavy oil. During the ceremony, Tanimoto expressed optimism regarding the new collaboration, highlighting MCSI’s long-standing history of supplying excellent seafarers and emphasizing the critical role of Indonesian crews in safe LNG operations.

MOL has a rich history in Indonesia, having formed a partnership with Humpuss Maritim Internasional Tbk. Group in 1986 to focus on training local seafarers. The company has introduced scholarship programs at local universities to cultivate talent in the industry. As the demand for LNG transportation grows due to its environmental benefits, MOL is committed to enhancing its training efforts to ensure a reliable supply of skilled personnel. This initiative reflects MOL’s aims to meet customer expectations and contribute to sustainable growth.

In terms of operational logistics, the new McMOL office, situated in the Granadi Building in Jakarta, has been renovated to create a modern working environment. MOL’s strategy includes leveraging the expertise and network it has developed from operating one of the world’s largest LNG fleets, coupled with the local knowledge from MCSI.

MOL’s commitment to sustainability is evident in this venture. The company identifies key sustainability issues that guide its operations, including safety in transportation, environmental conservation, and community development. This joint initiative with MCSI is envisioned to bolster MOL’s efforts in these areas, ensuring high-quality transport services while supporting the local community and the marine environment.

By focusing on manning services through McMOL, MOL aims to secure a stable and skilled workforce as it expands its LNG fleet, thereby addressing the rising global demand for cleaner energy solutions and reinforcing Indonesia’s pivotal role in the maritime sector.
