New Maritime Experiential Learning Centre Launched by IMO Secretary-General in Malaysia

Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM), a premier institution in Maritime Education and Training (MET) under the MISC Group, recently celebrated the launch of its Maritime Experiential Learning Centre. This new facility, equipped with advanced simulator technology, aims to enhance maritime education and prepare seafarers for the future. The inauguration was led by Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), during his first official visit to Malaysia, coinciding with Malaysia Maritime Week 2025.

The Maritime Experiential Learning Centre was developed through a strategic collaboration between ALAM and Wärtsilä, a global leader in smart marine technology. This partnership allows ALAM to use cutting-edge, cloud-enabled simulators that accurately replicate actual vessel operations, providing trainees with an immersive learning experience that closely resembles real-world scenarios in the maritime industry.

Wärtsilä has recognized ALAM as its first MASTER (Maritime Advancement in Simulation Technology & R&D Services) Centre in the Asia Pacific, further establishing ALAM as a hub for cultivating next-generation maritime professionals. This endorsement underscores the institution’s commitment to leveraging smart technologies and expert knowledge to address the evolving needs of the global maritime sector.

Through these advancements, ALAM aims not only to elevate the standards of maritime training but also to respond effectively to the challenges and opportunities in the maritime industry, ensuring that its graduates are well-prepared for successful careers in this dynamic field.
