Sonia Malaluan stands at the helm of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) as administrator, bringing over 30 years of dedicated service and a wealth of experience in advancing the Philippine maritime sector. Her career journey is characterized by a steadfast commitment to regulatory excellence, strategic leadership, and international cooperation. She began working at MARINA in 1989 in different roles as director of domestic shipping service; regional director, MARINA Regional Office 1 & 2 in La Union; director of manpower development service, etc.
Malaluan was also a representative of MARINA to different international forums such as the Technical Cooperation Committee and Facilitation Committee Meetings of the International Maritime Organization, the ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meetings, and the ASEAN Maritime Technical Working Group Meetings. She also served as the maritime attaché in London.
Malaluan is a certified public accountant and holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, and a Master of Science degree in shipping management from the World Maritime University in Sweden.
