Stillstrom and industry partners have launched a pilot offshore charging system designed to significantly curb emissions associated with offshore wind activities.

Stillstrom, Faber Group, and Prysmian Collaborate to Reduce Vessel Emissions in Offshore Wind Supply Chain

Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) are significant contributors to carbon emissions during wind farm operations, primarily due to their prolonged on-site presence and frequent trips to shore for refueling. Stillstrom’s innovative offshore charging technology addresses these challenges by enabling SOVs to remain stationary, thereby reducing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption while improving operational efficiency.

This cutting-edge technology necessitates advanced energy storage systems and adaptable power connections. However, conventional products are unsuitable for the harsh marine environment, where they must endure saltwater exposure, mechanical stress, temperature variations, and stringent safety regulations. They also require customized cable lengths, high current capacities, and full regulatory compliance. To overcome these obstacles, Faber Group, in collaboration with Prysmian, has developed a tailored power and cable solution that ensures reliable and safe energy transmission between offshore infrastructure, cable systems, and SOVs.

A trial is set to be conducted in Q4 in Esbjerg, Denmark, showcasing the integration of each company’s proprietary technologies aimed at minimizing CO2 emissions, noise, and offshore pollutants. This initiative seeks to provide operators with a low-maintenance and future-proof infrastructure for cleaner maritime operations.

Their experience in flexible assembly and maritime turnkey solutions helps meet the high-tensile and offshore standards essential for this project.
