Oman is set to host the 8th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) on February 16 and 17, 2024, with the theme ‘Voyage to New Horizons of Maritime Partnership.’ Organized by the Foreign Ministry, the event emphasizes Oman’s commitment to strengthening maritime security, promoting sustainable maritime trade, and fostering international cooperation to tackle shared challenges faced by Indian Ocean nations.
According to Oman’s Foreign Minister, H E Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, the conference signifies the country’s strategic role in enhancing regional stability and prosperity. It will serve as a platform for exchanging ideas on the future of the blue economy and ocean governance, aiming to facilitate constructive discussions that benefit all participating nations and solidify Oman’s stature in regional diplomacy.
The conference will focus on several key aspects: enhancing maritime partnerships to improve collaboration among Indian Ocean countries, supporting sustainable development for responsible maritime trade and resource management, and addressing vital maritime security issues. This includes safeguarding freedom of navigation and utilizing modern technologies to enhance port security and governance.
