Survitec Launches Next-Gen Foam System for More Effective Fire Protection

Survitec Introduces Advanced Foam System for Enhanced Fire Protection

Survitec, a leader in survival technology, has introduced a new high-expansion foam fire suppression system focused on enhancing performance while lowering costs for shipyards and shipowners. This cutting-edge system features a redesigned generator that significantly boosts foam output at much lower operating pressures, addressing traditional constraints associated with high-pressure systems.

One of the main challenges with conventional foam systems has been their reliance on high pressure, which not only increases the requirements for pumps and water supply but also elevates overall equipment and operational costs. Survitec’s innovation optimizes nozzle alignment and incorporates new moving components to create rotary momentum, which boosts airflow and expands foam at lower nominal pressures. This technological progression translates to reduced costs, as fewer generator units are needed to produce the same foam volume, thus lowering capital and installation expenses.

According to Maciej Nieścioruk, Product Manager for Foam and Clean Agent Systems at Survitec, the system’s lower pressure demands make it lighter, more efficient, and easier to service, all while maintaining high fire safety standards. The design has been validated through a partnership with DNV, confirming its reliability across various configurations with stable expansion ratios and effective discharge behavior.

The generator also boasts several advancements that improve its overall efficiency and compactness. Through optimized nozzle alignment, it eliminates blind spots and maximizes foam output. A newly designed impeller enhances air intake and foam distribution while minimizing the pressure needed for foam generation, which results in a more consistent expansion rate.

Versatility is a key feature of this system, making it suitable for high-risk machinery spaces on gas carriers and tankers, as well as RORO (Roll-On/Roll-Off) spaces on Pure Car Carriers (PCCs). The system can be deployed either remotely or manually and is designed to be compatible with Survitec’s SMARR-TI safety management solution. Importantly, it is fluorine-free, aligning with emerging regulations, and Survitec offers a global network for sourcing replacement foam concentrates.

Survitec collaborates closely with shipyards and owners to ensure compatibility of pumps and piping, while also managing the necessary approvals with class organizations to maintain compliance and operational integrity. This proactive approach highlights Survitec’s commitment to delivering effective and regulatory-compliant fire suppression solutions tailored to the maritime industry.
