Top 10 Bunkering Ports to Take Note in the World 2023

Bunkering is the process of supplying a ship with fuel. It’s an integral part of maritime commerce and a big business. In 2019, the global bunker market was worth an estimated $27 billion. There are many factors to consider when deciding which port to bunker at. Some ports are cheaper than others. Some have better infrastructure, and some have more suppliers to choose from.

According to the latest global energy consultancy, Wood Mackenzie report, Singapore will be among the top 10 bunkering ports in the world in 2022. The Republic currently sits in eighth place but will rise to sixth by 2022 as demand for bunker fuel grows. In particular, Singapore’s strong position in the East Asian market will help it maintain its ranking.

“Singapore has a well-developed bunkering infrastructure and is strategically located at the heart of Asia’s shipping lanes,” said Wood Mackenzie senior analyst Collin Meeks. “These factors, coupled with increasing demand for bunker fuel, will see the port maintain its ranking as one of the world’s top bunkering ports.”

The increase in bunkering demand is driven by increased lending and support from banks and rising bunker prices, which are expected to reach 71 USD per metric ton by 2022, a 9% rise compared to 2017.

In addition to Singapore’s position as one of the world’s leading bunkering ports, the country is also a significant producer and trader of bunker fuel. This prominent role has helped the country establish itself as a critical player in the global shipping market and will continue to do so in the future. With its strong position in both bunkering and shipping, it is clear that Singapore is an excellent choice for companies looking to expand their reach in the global energy industry.
