Univers to Advance Singapore’s Virtual Power Plant Initiative Under EMA Regulatory Sandbox

Partnership with SP Group moves Singapore closer to real-time distributed energy
participation at national grid level
Singapore – 27 November 2025 – Univers, a global AI and IoT platform leader, has announced
a collaboration with SP Group (SP) to advance Singapore’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP) initiative
under the Energy Market Authority’s (EMA) Regulatory Sandbox, a milestone in enabling real
time orchestration of distributed energy assets within the national grid.
A live demonstration of the VPP proof of concept was first showcased at the 25th Conference of
the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI), held from 28 October to 1 November in conjunction
with Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2025. Building on this success, Univers and
SP have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to pilot deployment and market
readiness within EMA’s sandbox environment, marking an important step towards operational
activation.
In its initial phase, the VPP will aggregate and manage distributed energy assets across various
sites, supporting grid services such as frequency regulation, contingency reserve and energy
services. The system is designed for scalable national expansion in collaboration with key
energy, infrastructure, and industrial partners.
Under the MOU, both Parties will work jointly to advance the development and deployment of
the VPP platform, combining their respective expertise to refine system design, improve
platform functionality, and establish a scalable framework for future expansion. This
collaboration will include coordinated efforts on integration, testing, and market readiness
activities to support wider adoption of VPP capabilities.
“This collaboration is a pivotal step toward commercializing Virtual Power Plant capabilities in
Singapore,” said Michael Ding, Global Executive Director, Univers. “By combining AI
innovation with grid expertise, we are advancing a model that not only strengthens Singapore’s
energy resilience but also sets a blueprint for how ASEAN countries can accelerate distributed
energy adoption and renewable integration.”
The announcement follows Univers’ broader innovation agenda, including the announcement of
its Global Impact AI Lab with AMD, Microsoft, and NUS – a global partnership platform to
accelerate AI and IoT innovation across industries.
