MarinEV, the marine electrification division of Singapore-based Yinson GreenTech (YGT), has unveiled the Hydromover 2.0 project, advancing its line of zero-emission electric vessels aimed at light cargo transport in Singapore’s ports. Following the successful launch of the Hydromover 1.0 in November 2023, the new 23-meter vessel is designed with significant improvements.
Key enhancements in Hydromover 2.0 include an expanded deck space capable of accommodating up to 30 metric tons of cargo, which represents a 25% increase in payload capacity compared to its predecessor. The design of the vessel, crafted by the Australian marine engineering firm Incat Crowther, emphasizes energy efficiency. This innovation seeks to reduce both energy costs and emissions, aligning with broader sustainability objectives.
The vessel will be classified by Bureau Veritas (BV), which is responsible for assessing the safety and functionality of the battery system, along with fire protection measures and system certification. Yinson has already received Approval in Principle (AiP) from BV based on initial design submissions, indicating strong progress in the development process.
Hydromover 2.0 is projected to enter sea trials in the third quarter of 2025. This initiative will enhance MarinEV’s existing fleet, which includes the Hydroglyder, a vessel used for crew transfer services. The introduction of these electric vessels supports Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) in achieving its decarbonization goals, which focus on transitioning all new harbor craft to fully electric or low-carbon fuel operations by 2030.
