The Ports Management and Shipping Department at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens has officially assumed responsibility for the Editorial Office of the esteemed journal, Maritime Economics and Logistics (MEL), which holds an impressive impact factor of 4.1. This move marks a significant transition after a productive ten-year partnership with Texas A&M University in the United States.
As Greece’s oldest and most prestigious university, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is regarded as a leading academic institution globally. The shift in editorial management aims to enhance research and publication in key disciplines such as port management, shipping finance, and the integration of artificial intelligence in the maritime sector.
In this new structure, Professor Theodoros Syriopoulos, the Department Chair of Ports Management and Shipping, steps in as the third Associate Editor for MEL, following Professor Iakovou. He joins an esteemed editorial team that includes Professors Theo Notteboom from the University of Antwerp in Belgium and Kevin Cullinane from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. The overall editorial direction is under the leadership of Professor Hercules Haralambides, who serves as the Editor-in-Chief based at Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
MEL’s scope encompasses critical areas such as shipping, ports, and global supply chains. It is recognized as a Q1 journal in fields like economics, econometrics, and finance. The transition of MEL’s editorial office to Athens signifies a strategic effort to leverage the department’s expertise to further elevate the quality and impact of research published within the journal.
