Arsenio Dominguez has recently taken office as the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), embracing a vision focused on transparency, inclusion, and diversity. He highlights the need for a sufficient supply of skilled seafarers and addressing gender imbalances within the industry. The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) is under review to align competencies with technological advancements and climate objectives. Moreover, the IMO is actively enhancing training initiatives through collaborations and established institutions like the World Maritime University.
