Maritime Cyprus Conference Kicks Off in Limassol Today

The Maritime Cyprus Conference, taking place from October 6-8 in Limassol, is set to gather over 900 shipping industry leaders and executives from 35 countries to discuss pressing issues facing the sector. Organized biennially by the Shipping Deputy Ministry in partnership with the Cyprus Shipping Chamber and the Cyprus Union of Shipowners, this year’s theme is “Unlocking the Future…of Shipping.”

The opening day will feature notable addresses from various dignitaries, including President Nikos Christodoulides, Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanolis, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization Arsenio Dominguez, and European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport Apostolos Tzitzikostas. Other distinguished attendees will include leaders from major shipping associations and foreign ministers, who will engage in expert panel discussions throughout the event.

The primary goal of the conference is to serve as a platform for presenting and discussing vital shipping-related issues, enabling informed decision-making and policy formulation. The event not only brings international attention to significant topics such as regulatory changes and environmental challenges but also showcases Cyprus’s rich maritime tradition and its developed shipping infrastructure.

Shipping Deputy Minister Hadjimanolis emphasized the importance of the conference during a recent press briefing, highlighting its history and pivotal role in the global shipping industry. The president of the Cyprus Union of Shipowners, Polys Hajioannou, noted the expected participation of foreign shipowners, particularly from Greece, amid ongoing discussions about future fuel regulations that are causing uncertainty in the sector.

Andreas Neophytou, President of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, hailed the conference as one of the preeminent global gatherings for shipping professionals. According to Christiana Patsiou from the Shipping Cluster Development Directorate, in addition to the main discussions, the event will feature a Shipping Services Exhibition with over 40 exhibitors representing various maritime services from Cyprus and abroad.

With the Maritime Cyprus Conference, stakeholders are looking to address current challenges while seizing new opportunities within the shipping sector, emphasizing the need for clarity on fuel regulations and environmental protections. Overall, this conference presents a significant opportunity for collaboration and knowledge exchange among industry leaders.
