Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chair of the NATO Military Committee, participated in the annual Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defence Conference, held in Hua Hin, Thailand, from August 26 to 28. Co-hosted by Admiral Samuel Paparo of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and General Noonpackdee Songwit from the Royal Thai Armed Forces, the conference adopted the theme “Peace through Strength – Ensuring Security and Prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.”
Senior military leaders from across Northeast, South, and Southeast Asia, as well as Oceania, convened to discuss various regional security concerns. The agenda encompassed traditional security challenges while also addressing non-traditional threats and the integration of emerging technologies in countering these issues. Admiral Cavo Dragone highlighted the critical role of Indo-Pacific partners in fostering dialogue and cooperation in diverse sectors, including industry, maritime, and cyber security. He emphasized that in today’s unpredictable global security landscape, collaboration is essential for maintaining international stability for present and future generations.
Further discussions revealed the increasing interconnectedness between the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific regions, particularly concerning the strategic alignment of China and North Korea with Russia amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The seminar underscored the need for a unified approach to security challenges, reflecting a shared commitment to a rules-based international order.
In conclusion, Admiral Cavo Dragone asserted that modern security issues transcend geographical boundaries and require collective efforts grounded in common values. The conference provided a vital platform for military leaders to exchange perspectives and reinforce partnerships aimed at enhancing regional security and stability.
