On November 13, 2025, a new maritime training simulator system was inaugurated in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, by the joint venture UT STC, comprising the University of Transport Ho Chi Minh City and the Dutch training group STC. This advanced facility features two state-of-the-art Dutch bridge simulators, offering 240- and 360-degree views, and incorporates a variety of vessel models and realistic scenarios that encompass both Vietnamese and international waterways.
Additionally, the center is equipped with a Kongsberg engine room simulator that accurately simulates machinery spaces, control rooms, and high-voltage systems. Beyond this, the training facility includes simulators for cargo handling, Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS), and Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), alongside specialized areas for survival and firefighting training, all constructed in accordance with STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) requirements.
Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Aukje de Vries, participated in the inauguration and emphasized the significance of this project as a symbol of the enduring maritime collaboration between Vietnam and the Netherlands. She expressed that the Dutch government is committed to continuing its support for technology transfer and training that meets international standards.
The establishment of this maritime training center is poised to enhance practical training opportunities for students in Vietnam, enabling the country to produce highly qualified seafarers who can meet the demands of the global shipping industry. This initiative exemplifies how international cooperation can lead to advancements in maritime education, fostering growth and excellence within Vietnam’s maritime sector.
