7 January 2026, ISKANDAR PUTERI –– Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), a joint venture between
Malaysia-based MMC Group and Netherlands-based APM Terminals, achieved a historic
milestone by recording 14,028,375 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) over the full 2025
calendar year, becoming the first single container terminal in Malaysia to surpass the 14 million
TEU mark.
Malaysia’s Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke Siew Fook said, “This achievement marks a
significant leap forward for PTP, building on its previous record highs of 11.2 million TEUs in 2021,
later followed by 12.3 million TEUs in 2024, and now reaching even greater height in 2025, truly
reflects the port’s sustained operational discipline, scale and execution strength.”
“Reaching this new threshold in PTP’s 25th Anniversary year makes it more meaningful and
further reinforces its standing as Malaysia’s leading transshipment hub and one of the region’s
most resilient and high-performing container terminals.”
PTP Chairman, Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh remarked, “Closing 2025 at 14 million TEUs is
an achievement that fills us with pride, not only because it sets a new national benchmark, but
because it reflects the collective commitment of our people and the confidence of our customers
that define PTP. It is even more significant given that this was achieved while sustaining a monthly
average of 1.2 million TEUs with no congestion.”
“The trust placed in PTP by our customers and partners has been fundamental to this success.
Being named the key Asian hub for the Gemini Cooperation is a further affirmation of that trust.
As PTP marks its 25th Anniversary, this milestone is a powerful reminder of what we can deliver
together, and the journey ahead remains equally exciting.”
PTP Chief Executive Officer, Mark Hardiman added, “In 2024, PTP achieved 12.3 million TEUs in
a single year, marking a historic annual throughput milestone for its operations. In 2025, we went
further by reaching both 13 million and 14 million TEUs, with both milestones achieved within
the same month, on 6 and 31 December 2025 respectively. This represents a defining moment
for PTP and places the terminal in a new league of operational performance.”
“Furthermore, PTP continues to reach new milestones in its Free Zone operations. This segment
grew by 8 per cent compared to 2024 – driven by e-commerce, sports apparel, FMCGs, auto
parts, and construction materials. To date, our Pelepas Free Zone’s 7 million square feet of
warehouse space has achieved a strong 98 per cent occupancy rate, driven by high demand from
multinational and local players supported with set ups of new distribution hubs, further
solidifying PTP’s standing as a premier regional logistics hub.”
“None of this would have been possible without the continued support of our customers,
partners and stakeholders, and most importantly, the dedication of our workforce who make this
happen. As we look ahead, our focus remains on optimising our footprint, advancing key
developments and preparing for even higher volumes, while staying anchored on our people, our
technology, our processes, our customers at the centre, and safety as our top priority.”
December proved to be a defining month for PTP, marked not only by record-breaking
throughput milestones, but also by the grand celebration of its 25th Anniversary Gala Night. The
event brought together government representatives, regulators, shipping line customers, free
zone tenants, industry partners, suppliers, community leaders and shareholders to
commemorate a quarter-century of shared growth and achievement.
The Gala Night was graced by Loke, who also presented special recognitions including the
Builders of the Port Laureate, Quarter-Century Throughput Leader, Rising Star Line, Longstanding
Partnerships and Free Zone Excellences. These recognitions were conferred in appreciation of
the individuals, organisations and partners who have journeyed alongside PTP throughout its 25
years of excellence.
At the Gala Night, Loke said, “The significance of PTP’s rise is clear. PTP is on track to join the
world’s Top 10 ports, a goal well within reach given its performance, strategic location and
continued investment in technology, infrastructure and talent.”
“This momentum reflects more than operational capability. It represents the confidence placed
in PTP and in Malaysia by global carriers, shipping alliances and supply chain operators who view
our nation as a safe, stable and scalable partner for world-class port services.”
“My heartfelt congratulations to the board, management team, and every member of the PTP
workforce. Your collective efforts have firmly placed PTP on the global maritime map,” he said,
congratulating the PTP team on the milestones.
PTP was named a 5-Star Lister on the ESG Select List 2025 by the United Nations Global Compact
Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) on 6 January 2026, becoming the third organisation in
Malaysia to attain this distinction. PTP is also the first and only company in Johor to achieve a 5-
Star rating on the list, as well as the first and only organisation within Malaysia’s port and
maritime industry to receive this recognition, marking a strong and meaningful start to the new
year.
