Viettel High Tech, a subsidiary of Vietnam’s military group Viettel, has achieved a significant milestone by having its maritime simulation technology certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) as a top-tier system. This certification marks the first time Vietnam has developed a maritime simulation system that meets the highest international standards in this area.
The certified system allows for the creation of training courses that adhere to the safety and operational competency requirements set forth by the International Maritime Organization. The recognition from DNV, a highly respected organization established in Norway in 1864, enhances the system’s value for maritime training and operational units in Vietnam and the broader region.
The simulation system replicates a fully digital ship-bridge environment, creating a realistic scenario for trainees. It allows them to practice operations under various challenging conditions, such as severe weather, strong currents, and low visibility, as well as emergency situations that are difficult to simulate on actual vessels. This high degree of realism is critical, as the training accurately reflects real-life maritime operations.
Viettel’s system passed all evaluations by DNV, achieving a Class A rating, the highest of five tiers defined by the DNV-ST-0033 standard. This success positions Vietnam alongside a select group of Asian nations—China, India, Singapore, Japan, and Turkey—that can independently research and develop world-class ship-bridge simulation technologies.
Overall, this achievement not only underscores the capabilities of Vietnamese technology but also enhances the country’s position in the global maritime training landscape, providing substantial benefits for both domestic and international maritime operations.
