Xerox President: There’s A $300M Backlog We Can’t Ship Because Of Product Shortages

Xerox President: $300M Shipping Delay Due to Product Shortages

Xerox is actively addressing supply chain challenges, a situation compounded by a backlog of $300 million in unshipped orders. Steve Bandrowczak, the company’s president and COO, outlined strategies to mitigate these supply chain risks during a recent discussion. The approach includes exploring alternative transportation routes, such as utilizing ports on the East Coast, Florida, and Louisiana, to facilitate smoother logistics and reduce bottlenecks.

Moreover, Bandrowczak emphasizes the need for innovative solutions in sourcing components, particularly amid ongoing shortages of critical elements like chips. He mentions efforts to identify alternative chips and manufacturers to diversify their supply base, enabling production continuity. Xerox is also re-evaluating assembly locations to reduce disruption points in the supply chain.

Labor shortages are another significant concern, prompting Xerox to assess both existing and alternative partnerships to ensure sufficient workforce availability for production and assembly tasks. In terms of customer support, Xerox is extending assistance to partners facing similar supply chain challenges by providing alternatives, such as leasing extensions and substitute equipment options, ensuring continuity for clients.

Joshua Justice, founder of JustTech, a Xerox partner, is implementing similar strategies by helping customers navigate order fulfillment through product substitutions, offering loaners, and promoting remanufactured equipment. This pivot toward remanufactured technology not only addresses immediate needs but also aligns with sustainable practices by extending the lifecycle of technology products.

Despite the difficulties, there is cautious optimism about a recovery in the latter half of the year, with reports indicating that outstanding orders may soon be fulfilled. Both Bandrowczak and Justice believe in the potential for improvement, reflecting hope as supply chain dynamics continue to evolve. This proactive approach underscores Xerox’s commitment to enhancing its operations while supporting its partners through innovative and sustainable solutions in a challenging environment.
