ADNOC L&S Expands Fleet with Zakher Marine Acquisition: 24 Jack-ups and 38 OSVs Added

On November 17, 2022, ADNOC Logistics & Services, the shipping and maritime logistics arm of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), officially finalized the acquisition of Zakher Marine International (ZMI). This strategic move enhances ADNOC L&S’s fleet by adding 24 jack-up barges and 38 offshore support vessels, marking a significant expansion in the region’s maritime capabilities.

The acquisition ceremony took place on ZMI’s Sentinel Barge in Abu Dhabi, where ZMI will continue operating as an independent entity under ADNOC L&S, retaining its leadership with Ali El Ali as CEO. This partnership aligns with ADNOC L&S’s mission to extend its reach and create new opportunities, particularly in offshore operations which now include ZMI’s inaugural offshore renewables project in China.

Ali El Ali emphasized ZMI’s identity as a UAE-based company with a long-standing collaboration with ADNOC, focusing on delivering In-Country Value over decades. He highlighted that this merger not only broadens service offerings but also strengthens ZMI’s position as a leader in offshore services, especially considering it possesses the largest active fleet of offshore jack-up barges and support vessels globally.

Post-acquisition, ADNOC L&S asserts that it now boasts the most diversified fleet in the Middle East, operating over 300 vessels across its shipping, offshore logistics, and marine services divisions. The company has strategically acquired an extensive range of vessels in the past 24 months, including 25 deep-sea ships, which encompass eight Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) that add 16 million barrels of capacity, as well as six product tankers elevating the capacity of its product tanker fleet to over 1 million metric tons. Additionally, the fleet expansion includes five Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGC) for AW Shipping and six LNG carriers.

This acquisition symbolizes a significant step in the maritime logistics sector, reinforcing ADNOC’s commitment to enhancing regional maritime infrastructure and service diversity while maximizing operational efficiencies in the oil and gas industry. Through this strategic partnership with ZMI, ADNOC L&S is poised to capitalize on emerging opportunities within the offshore renewable energy space, further solidifying its leadership role in the maritime logistics domain.
