Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, recently visited the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) House in Karachi to discuss pressing concerns in the nation’s rice export sector and port operations. Accompanied by Shahid Ahmed, chairperson of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), and other ministry officials, the minister engaged with key figures from REAP, including Group Chairman Abdul Rahim Janoo, Chairman Malik Faisal Jahangir, and Senior Vice Chairman Muhammad Jawed Jillani.
During the meeting, REAP representatives expressed their gratitude for the government’s ongoing support for exporters, especially in the current challenging global trading environment. They acknowledged the Maritime Ministry’s crucial role in enhancing cargo handling operations at Pakistan’s ports, largely due to initiatives driven by KPT.
The discussions focused on various issues affecting rice exports, which are critical to the country’s economy. Minister Chaudhry assured the exporters of his full support, emphasizing the government’s commitment to facilitating smoother trade operations.
Alongside the primary agenda, Abdul Rahim Janoo informed the minister about the Haji Razzak Janoo Memorial Trust’s initiatives, which include organizing free laser eye cataract surgery camps in both Pakistan and Bangladesh. The minister agreed to collaborate with the trust to set up a three-day free medical camp in Toba Tek Singh, where the trust would handle all medical expenses, while the Ministry would provide logistical support, including food, accommodation, and venue arrangements.
This engagement underscores the government’s dedication to addressing the issues faced by key export sectors while also contributing to community welfare through healthcare initiatives. The collaborative efforts between the government and private sectors signify a unified approach to tackling economic challenges and improving public health services.
