Japan–Vietnam Maritime Tour Inspires Youth

NYK recently organized a social studies tour for 48 junior high school students from the Ho Chi Minh Japanese School in Vietnam, focusing on the maritime connection between Japan and Vietnam. This initiative commemorates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The tour included visits to various Japan-related facilities, particularly highlighting the Saigon Premier Container Terminal. This trading port plays a significant role in connecting Japan and Vietnam. During the visit, students participated in a presentation on the life and work of seafarers, who are crucial to the shipping and trade industries. The children’s enthusiasm was evident through their engaging questions, such as inquiries about the daily ship traffic to and from Japan and the educational pathways to becoming a seafarer. This interaction helped enhance their understanding of the shipping industry and the intertwined destinies of Japan and Vietnam.

NYK’s commitment extends beyond this tour. The organization aims to continue fostering connections between Japan and Vietnam, inspiring future generations about the maritime industry’s appeal and the vital work of seafarers. By offering such educational experiences, NYK hopes to plant seeds of interest in maritime careers among young Vietnamese students, thereby building deeper ties and mutual understanding between the two nations.
