Flowing Hope: ParagonCorp Wardah and Komodo Water Enhance Living Quality Through Clean Water Access in East Nusa Tenggara

Lempe, East Nusa Tenggara, 9 December 2025 — ParagonCorp Wardah, in collaboration with Komodo Water, launched the “Langkah Alirkan Harapan” (Flow Hope), a program under the Clean Water Initiative, to deliver clean water and sanitation needs for two villages in East Nusa Tenggara: Poco Dedeng Village, in Lempe Hamlet, and Wae Tulu, Manggarai Barat Regency. Inaugurated last 28 November 2025, the program  addresses the need for clean water access, a long-standing challenge in the region.

Following the assessment detailing that Lempe and Wae Tulu residents, particularly women and children, had to endure 4-6 hours a day traversing harsh terrain to obtain clean water that increased the risk of stunting and disrupted learning, ParagonCorp Wardah and Komodo Water collaborated to build a water supply system consisting of storage tanks, solar-powered water pumps, and a piped that uses gravity.

By installing multiple access points in residential areas and public facilities, the energy-efficient infrastructure delivers clean water to more than 70 households (790 people) in Lempe and over 120 households (465 people) in Wae Tulu.

The new water system is poised to generate employment as women are expected to manage water contributions and maintain the facilities. It can also unlock economic opportunities. Candlenut, a source of livelihood in Lempe, which yields 100 tons per year, can now be processed more easily. Cashew nut, a staple in Wae Tulu, is likely to increase in production with better water availability.

Cross-Sector Collaboration for Sustainable Solutions

The inauguration of Clean Water Initiative in Lempe was attended by Retno Marsudi, UN Secretary-General Special Envoy on Water; Dr. Sari Chairunnisa, Sp.KK, FINSDV, Deputy CEO of ParagonCorp; Aloisius Lahi, representative of the West Manggarai Regency Government; Shana Fatina, Founder and CEO of Komodo Water; Y.W. Junardy, President of the Indonesia Global Compact Network (IGCN); as well as village heads and community representatives from Lempe and Wae Tulu.

UN Secretary-General Special Envoy on Water Retno Marsudi emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in addressing the global water crisis, adding that the newly-built water system not ONLY supports the community in achieving a better quality of life but also nurtures the aspirations of future generations, the nation’s future leaders.

“Water is a humanitarian issue. In international forums, I always highlight that it is impossible to achieve the sustainable development goals without water. In Lempe and Wae Tulu, I see something different: water has unified communities, government, the private sector, and local organizations to move together and create a real ecosystem of change,” Marsudi stated.

ParagonCorp Deputy CEO, Dr. Sari Chairunnisa, Sp.KK, FINSDV, emphasized, “This Flow Hope program reflects the value of beneficial impact, which the company has been upholding for 40 years, as well as our commitment to bring meaningful change to more than 1,200 people in East Nusa Tenggara. We believe that access to clean water is a necessary step to change lives. Once this basic need is met, we will continue to launch socioeconomic programs spanning from agriculture to education, so we can make an impact and support communities further.”

Community Dialogue and Real Impact for the Community

The inauguration organized a “Community Dialogue” session, featuring stories from village leaders and local residents that shed light on how clean water has changed their lives for good.

Donatus Sidi, Head of Poco Dedeng Village, said, “Previously, we had to walk long distance just to fetch water. Having a new water system created ripples of change. Children can now focus on their studies and not worry about bringing water. Instead of spending hours collecting water, women can have more time to work and support their families. With water nearby, our village is no longer just a place where our children survive, but a home where they can grow and pursue their dreams.

The Langkah Alirkan Harapan Clean Water Initiative underscores two of three ParagonCorp Wardah’s sustainability pillars: people, focusing on community empowerment; and planet, centering on environmental responsibility and the circular economy. It also promotes the message of Wardah Beauty Moves You, inspiring women to contribute to creating change and improving the quality of life in their communities. “We hope the spirit of Paragon Wardah Brave Beauties will continue to live in the daily lives of women across Indonesia. Together with ParagonCorp Wardah, we move together, for the greater good, for life,” concluded dr. Chairunnisa.
