Marcos honors Pinoy seafarers, calls for stronger maritime support

Marcos Celebrates Filipino Seafarers, Urges Enhanced Maritime Aid

On the occasion of the International Day of the Seafarer, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the Philippine government’s commitment to the country’s seafarers, whom he described as the “quiet strength” of global trade. In a message delivered by Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Sonia Malaluan, President Marcos paid tribute to the resilience, discipline, and significant contributions of Filipino mariners.

He emphasized that in every aspect of global trade and in every ocean where vessels navigate, Filipino seafarers are indispensable, embodying pride and tireless dedication. Acknowledging the challenging nature of maritime work—characterized by extended periods away from home—Marcos praised seafarers for their unwavering service and tenacity.

The President highlighted the crucial role of MARINA in ensuring that Filipino mariners are well-trained and recognized as essential not only to global trade but also to national development. He stated that MARINA’s mission includes developing policies that prioritize training and protection for seafarers, positioning them as both a global asset and a source of national pride.

In his address, President Marcos called upon all stakeholders to use the International Day of the Seafarer to renew their commitment to supporting Filipino mariners. He urged the implementation of policies that enhance the dignity of seafarers, improve their deployment conditions, and expand their career opportunities. He underscored the need for support for seafarers both while they are at sea and when they return home.

In closing, the President expressed hope that the discipline of Filipino seafarers would inspire a culture of excellence across the nation, and that their resilience would propel every Filipino towards progress.

This message serves not only as recognition of the hard work of Filipino seafarers but also as a call to action for the entire maritime industry and stakeholders to prioritize their welfare and development.
