On Wednesday night, at 22:49 local time, a ferry successfully docked at San Andres, bringing an end to a tense situation. All 119 passengers and crew members were safely disembarked without any injuries reported. The ferry was carrying a cargo of 16 vehicles, all of which remained undamaged.
In the wake of the incident, the coast guard has initiated an investigation into a fire that reportedly occurred on board the vessel. As part of the investigation process, the coast guard has informed the Maritime Industry Authority regarding the situation and the detention of the ferry, Monreal. This step is essential for securing a suspension of the vessel’s passenger ship safety certificate.
The incident, while fortunately resulting in no harm to individuals or cargo, has raised concerns about safety protocols and the operational status of the ferry service. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough review and implement any necessary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
