Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM), through its managing body Malaysian Maritime Academy Sdn Bhd, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maldives State Shipping, as announced in a press statement. This partnership aims to enhance maritime education, training, and innovation, reflecting a strategic move to meet the evolving needs of the maritime industry.
Established over 40 years ago, ALAM is a leading maritime training facility in Malaysia and has successfully trained more than 14,000 maritime professionals via structured programs that include full-mission simulators and specialized laboratories. The Malaysian Maritime Academy is a subsidiary of the MISC Group, indicating its strong industry ties and support.
Maldives State Shipping, a subsidiary of the State Trading Organisation founded by the Maldivian government in 1964, has grown substantially since it became a listed company in 2001. This partnership seeks to provide industry-relevant training and foster groundbreaking research initiatives, addressing the growing demand for skilled maritime professionals.
Key features of the collaboration include a merit-based scholarship program that will allow successful candidates from the Maldives to access ALAM’s internationally acclaimed maritime curriculum. Participants will benefit from advanced facilities and expertise in maritime training.
Moreover, the partnership will offer enhanced training opportunities and internships with Maldives State Shipping, providing trainees with practical industry exposure and valuable hands-on experience in real-world maritime environments. The Chief Executive of ALAM, Ts Dr Captain Manivannan Subramaniam, expressed pride in this collaboration, noting that it marks a significant milestone for ALAM as it extends its reach beyond Southeast Asia. The signing of the MoU took place in the presence of key officials, including Mr. Eddie Ahmad Khodzali, CEO of the Malaysian Maritime Academy, and Mr. Ahmed Shareef, Managing Director & CEO of Maldives State Shipping. Notable witnesses included Her Excellency Dr. Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed, High Commissioner of Maldives to Malaysia, and Captain Ahmed Zubair, Deputy Managing Director of Maldives State Shipping.
